Not too long ago, retailers had to rely on clunky ‘zip-zap’ machines to physically imprint customer cards. However, things rapidly changed with the introduction of terminals that could connect to authorization systems via phone lines. These fixed terminals remain popular, especially among retailers who keep them on their counters, usually next to the cash register.
The next leap forward came with mobile terminals, allowing for greater flexibility in customer interactions, particularly in places like restaurants. Initially reliant on Wi-Fi, these devices have evolved to offer full mobility, enabling usage beyond fixed locations. Today, they can be used practically anywhere, as long as there’s a GPRS-standard phone signal available
The majority of mobile terminals utilize thermal paper credit card rolls that are 57mm wide, with diameters typically ranging from 40mm to 38mm. The most prevalent sizes are either 57×38 or 57×40, denoting the width and diameter of the rolls. Occasionally, you may encounter references to the core size, but this figure is typically standardized at 12.7mm for all applications, making it relatively unimportant to consider. Ensuring you have the correct size PDQ till rolls is crucial, as using one that is too large may prevent your terminal from closing properly.
